Radio Science Data Protocol

Introduction

The Radio Science Data protocol is intended to be used in the management of experimental Radio Science systems and the data they generate. In particular it is designed to serve the needs of Software Radar systems and it is the early prototyping for this technology that has resulted in this protocol.

The protocol is designed to be as simple and general as possible, to be easily manipulated using automated tools, and to provide relatively easy transparency for human inspection and manipulation.

The use of more general distributed computing solutions such as CORBA, DCOM, SOAP, XML-RPC, and Java RMI is avoided. These systems in general impose an additional level of complexity as well as performance and architectural constraints that are not well matched to the needs of a real time protocol for distributed scientific instruments.
