MIDAS-M UHF Radar Receiver

The MIDAS-M UHF Radar Receiver is a high integration receiver for down-converting UHF signals from RF to an IF appropriate for digitization by Echotek type digital receivers. The tuner is primarily designed for the downconversion of UHF signals in the 150 to 750 MHz range with an external image reject filter. A bypass input allows direct digitization of signals below 150 MHz by a digitial receiver card. The UHF Radar Receiver is appropriate for radar applications through the provision of appropriate trigger controlled blanking capabilities. Built in test and dual RF inputs per tuner provide for flexibility of application and tracking tuner performance. External time reference inputs for GPS derived PPS and 10 MHz allow the unit to provide highly accurate mode changes. On board PLLs allow RF tuning over a wide band although an appropriate image reject filter is required for a given application. The receiver incorporates ethernet and serial via USB control with a ucLinux operating system running on an Altera FPGA and nios2 processor. Web based status and control of receiver tuning, modes, and configuration are provided. The receiver uses a CompactPCI form factor to provide an appropriate chassis and power supply. The PCI communications backplane of the cPCI chassis is not used as the device is designed for ethernet control.
