MISA Pointing Calibration Experiments
Introduction
Bistatic radar work requires accurate pointing of the MISA, which serves as the UHF illuminator. We can use satellites with known ephemerae to determine pointing offsets inherent to the MISA command director and position encoder system. This page documents those efforts.
Available Geosynchronous Satellites
The following figure shows that there are 140 geosyncs within view, plotted as blue dots. The az/el position of the first Green Bank bistatic experiment during our deployment trip is marked with a red dot. The geosync closest to that one, measured by sqrt(azdelta**2 + eldelta**2), is SAT MEX 5, marked as a green dot.
